2019-2021 progress so far.

So in 2019, we put up a 28′ round pool. In 2020, the wife decided it’s deck building time. After alot of back and forth and deliberation, we decided to put the deck all the way around the pool in order to get the best use of the deck/pool/privacy the deck surround would provide. Several people have helped alot in the progress that has been made so far, most notably my son in law Joey. There were many more that have helped, to many to name, but Joey has helped many many days and given up many weekends to help out. Just thought I should give a shout out to him 🙂

The white flags are the outline of where the pool was to be built, and instead of trying to do this myself, we had it put in by the company we bought it from. There was the permits, electrical, and assorted other tasks that had to be completed before it was installed, but all in all that part went pretty smooth, and soon we had a pool that was full of water !

So the pool was installed, this was in September of 2019. A year later, time to start the deck……

So….. in August of 2020, after all the permits were received it was time to start digging holes…. the machine above was rented after trying to dig 50 holes by hand was deemed unacceptable by me, and a smaller one man power auger got stuck twice. After spending 4 hours digging it out by hand twice, back to the rental store, and time to dig holes. Had to wait for the inspector before we could go further, and then found out, the auger size in the picture was too small!!! Back to rent it again….with the bigger diameter auger, and REDRILL all 50 holes again…. that was annoying. However, once it was done, a better mood prevailed.

Time to set some posts…. 50+ of them… The following pictures show alot of the posts and using the laser level to mark them all. This worked FANTASTIC.

After marking them all, then came the fun process of cutting all the posts…. this was alot of fun.

Now it was time to add some of the beams to the top of the posts…..

The it was time for some of the joists to go on.

October rolled around and it was getting colder, so we had to winterize and cover the pool.

So now it’s the middle of November 2020, and I wanted to get some of the decking on to keep the joists from twisting. The goal was to get all of the main deck completely done, but I ended up getting very sick and did not get to complete that unfortunately, I did however get a few rows done, as shown below.

And that’s basically where I ended up for 2020….. I had hoped to get alot further, but getting sick didn’t help that at all, and it became way to cold to continue….. and the pandemic had started, so there was all that crap too.

So….. 2021 rolled around, and I started up again. Started putting down more decking…. and more decking, and more decking….it doesn’t seem to end…

…..and that’s about where i stopped on the decking in 2021…. however, I have worked on the steps. My father came and helped layout some stringers, and helped pour a concrete pad for them to set on, and I started that too.

So that’s where I stand so far with the deck project….. ending 2021. (Hey – I never said I was fast). Tools are inside the shop, and this will wait until next year to be finished…… Tons of fun…. tons I tell you, literally tons….
